Small-Pitch LED Screens Maintenance Tips

2024-07-29

With the rapid development of LED technology, small-pitch LED displays have become increasingly common in commercial display markets such as conference rooms, education, shopping malls, and cinemas. These products not only gradually replace DLP, LCD splicing, and projection products but are also favored by users for their high-definition display and high brightness features. However, to ensure these high-performance displays can operate stably over the long term, moisture protection and dehumidification are essential maintenance tasks. This article will detail the methods for moisture protection and dehumidification of small-pitch LED displays.

1. Environmental Monitoring and Usage Frequency

To ensure the normal operation of small-pitch LED displays, monitoring the ambient temperature and humidity is crucial. Check daily to ensure the display environment's temperature is ≦30℃ and humidity is ≦60% RH, as these are the basic conditions for the display to function properly.

It is recommended to use the display and its supporting equipment at least twice a week, for 2 hours each time. If the display is not used for five consecutive calendar days, it needs to undergo preheating and dehumidification operations before being used again.

2. Waterproof ≠ Moisture Proof

Many people mistakenly believe that waterproofing is the same as moisture-proofing, but this is not the case. Moisture-proofing refers to preventing moisture and humidity. The encapsulation material of LED display devices is mainly epoxy resin and other plastics, which are polymer materials. The gaps between the molecules of polymer materials are large, allowing vapor molecules to penetrate the shell. Since LED products are moisture-sensitive components, they will slowly absorb moisture during use.

3. Moisture Absorption Characteristics of LEDs

Under conditions where the temperature is ≤30℃ and the humidity is ≤60%RH, the moisture absorption characteristics of small-pitch LED displays are as follows:

Low Humidity Environment: LED displays absorb moisture slowly, with a low risk of moisture damage.
High Humidity Environment: The moisture absorption rate increases, and prolonged exposure to high humidity can lead to a significant accumulation of moisture inside the display, increasing the risk of failure.

4. Hazards of Moisture in LED Devices

When LED display devices get damp, moisture penetrates the components. Particularly, when halogen-containing moisture in the air penetrates the components and the device is powered, an electrochemical reaction occurs between the halogen in the moisture and the metals inside the components. This can lead to short circuits, leakage, or electrode drops in severe cases, causing dead pixels and abnormal brightness in the display screen.

5. Storage of LED Components

During transportation and storage, LED components need moisture and water protection. It is recommended to elevate the LED components and add desiccants. The best storage environment is a temperature of <30℃ and humidity of <60%RH. For spare modules, HUBs, and receiver cards, vacuum packaging or sealing with desiccants is recommended.

6. Indoor Dehumidification Methods

Physical Dehumidification: Place an appropriate amount of desiccant indoors to reduce the moisture in the air.
Adequate Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation when the weather is not humid and there is wind to accelerate the evaporation of moisture and reduce the indoor relative humidity.
Air Conditioning Dehumidification: Use air conditioning to dehumidify in humid weather to reduce the rate of moisture absorption.Special Dehumidifiers: Using special dehumidifiers is more effective for dehumidification.

7. Dehumidification of the Display in Use

After installing the display, it needs to be frequently turned on and used. If the display is not used for a long time (usually 5-10 days), dehumidification should be carried out before use. Gradually increase the brightness and slowly raise the temperature to remove the accumulated moisture inside the display.

8. Precautions for Using Disinfectants

In the storage, production, and use environments of LED displays, avoid spraying disinfectants directly, especially those containing chlorine and bromine, such as 84 disinfectant and high-efficiency disinfectant. Common disinfectants include 84 disinfectant, ethanol (alcohol) disinfectant, bromine-containing disinfectant, chlorine dioxide disinfectant tablets, and quaternary ammonium salt disinfectants. Misuse of chlorine-containing disinfectants, bromine-containing disinfectants, and chlorine dioxide disinfectant tablets can cause corrosion to LED displays and LEDs.

9. Dust Removal Maintenance for Displays

To maintain optimal display performance, it is recommended to clean the surface dust of the display with an anti-static soft brush every month.

As small-pitch LED technology matures and costs decrease, its application in various scenarios will continue to increase. Therefore, effective moisture protection and dehumidification are essential to ensure stable operation and extend the lifespan of the displays, thereby maintaining users' work efficiency.

By following these moisture protection and dehumidification measures, you can better maintain small-pitch LED displays, ensuring they perform optimally in various environments.
